Hey everyone, my name is Maddie Giles and I have the honor of serving as this year's Vice President of Philanthropy. Our international philanthropic efforts focus on fighting hunger globally and supporting those who may suffer from food insecurity. Because of our international partnership with Meals on Wheels and Feeding America Programs, we can support and make a hands-on impact outside of the community of Troy. Food insecurity is so prevalent in Troy Alabama because 1 in 4 people suffer from food insecurity in Pike County alone. One of our favorite events of the year is called FALL FEST. This is a campus-wide dance competition that we host each year to raise money for our philanthropy. It’s so much fun to see all of the fraternities and sororities come together to create a dance routine and perform in the Claudia Crosby Theatre on campus. This past year alone we raised over 50,000 dollars for our philanthropy. Serving our community is something Alpha Gam is very passionate about and our eagerness to serve is evident. Over 23% of Pike County struggles with food insecurity. To us, philanthropy means giving back to the community you have been placed. Our chapter works daily to ensure we are fulfilling our commitment to make Troy, Alabama a better place for everyone. Throughout the year our sisters are constantly finding a need in the community and figuring out ways we can help support and meet those needs. We LOVE to serve at local organizations such as the Campus Kitchens, Office of Civic Engagement, Empty Bowls, Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Club, Senior Nutrition Center, Common Ground Troy, Backpack for Kids and SO much more!! Our philanthropic focus is all about figuring out what our community needs and figuring out ways to support and meet those needs! We strive to be the hands and feet of Troy, Alabama. Here at Alpha Gam, we truly love serving our community and raising money for our philanthropy. It is our goal to do everything we can to be part of the solution to end food insecurity. We are proud and so blessed to be able to do our part to fight hunger and help others. Alpha Gams helps those in need by offering full plates, full hearts, and full minds. I am very excited to see the impact this chapter will make in our community this year, and I am forever grateful for the women of this chapter who have a love and heart for serving our community.
With love, Maddie Giles
